Kapa Haka
Celebrating Māori culture, language and identity
Kapa Haka is a valued part of life at Dargaville Intermediate School, bringing students together to celebrate Māori culture, language and identity.
Through weekly practices, students develop their skills in waiata, haka, poi, mōteatea and traditional Māori performing arts.Kapa Haka provides opportunities for students to build confidence, develop leadership, strengthen friendships and work together as a team.
Students are encouraged to embrace te reo Māori, learn about tikanga and develop a deeper connection to their whakapapa and the stories that shape who we are.Open to all students across our kura, Kapa Haka gives students the opportunity to learn, participate and take pride in being part of something special.
Throughout the year, our group also has opportunities to perform and represent our kura at a range of school and community events, cultural celebrations and special gatherings.
Whether students are experienced performers or completely new to Kapa Haka, everyone is welcomed and encouraged to give it a go.
He waka eke noa | We are all in this together.

Pasifika
Celebrating Pasifika Cultures
At Dargaville Intermediate School, we celebrate the rich cultures, languages and identities of our Pasifika students and whānau.
Through experiences such as Tongan and Samoan Language Weeks, cultural performances, traditional celebrations, music, dance, food and storytelling, our students have opportunities to share their heritage and learn about the diverse cultures within our school community.
We encourage our students to embrace who they are, take pride in their cultural identity and celebrate the traditions that make our community unique.
These experiences strengthen connections, build understanding and create a sense of belonging for all.
Celebrating identity, embracing culture and growing together.
