Tau atu ki tō tātou pā ārahi ko Te houhanga-a-rongo, kī kōnei

Our vision is to create a space where tamariki have the opportunity to be exposed to te reo Māori and tikanga, empowered to walk confidently in their identity, culture, and language. Strong connections with whānau, hapū, and iwi will foster a deep sense of belonging and pride, enabling learners to stand tall as Māori in both te ao Māori and te ao whānui, while keeping local mana close to their hearts.

According to the Ministry of Education provided document “Setting up a Pacific Bilingual or immersion unit in your school” a Māori bilingual unit that runs at a level 2 capacity looks like a minimum of a registered classroom having a 51-80% of class time spent instructional teaching in the language. This looks like 12.5-20 hours per week.

Our Graduate Profile builds on the values and aspirations already established within our kura. As we establish our new bilingual unit, we have elaborated on these values to reflect the unique aspirations of a bilingual and culturally grounded learning environment. Our profile focuses on developing learners who are confident in their identity, language and culture, connected to their whānau and community, and committed to their learning. We aspire for our learners to demonstrate manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, rangatiratanga and kaitiakitanga, while developing the knowledge, skills and values to become responsible, contributing and proud Māori citizens who are prepared to make a positive difference in their communities.
